“It’s only noon. You aren’t scheduled to leave until three.”

“And I told you yesterday that I was leaving early because I worked three hours past the time I was scheduled to be off. So, whoever came in late yesterday should have had to be here early today. If not, then maybe you should put an apron on and fill in where they’re short.”

I was tired and pissed. I might as well had stayed with Josiah because I barely got any sleep, thinking about what it would have felt like to be up under him all night. Frank stood there, looking pissed, but I didn’t give a shit. I pulled my apron off and went to the time clock to clock out. “Presley, if you leave, you will be fired.”

“Well, fire me then. Until notified in writing, I will show up for my shift Sunday.”

I was so done with this place. The entire six hours I’d been here had been filled with drama. Two maids didn’t show up. One actually called in, saying that her sitter was sick, and she didn’t have anyone to watch her children. The other one didn’t bother calling. I just hoped Josiah had some pull at the school to help me get on. At least over there, I would be off when Cannon was out of school. My only worry was the summertime. But I couldn’t worry about that right now. I just wanted to be away from this place as soon as possible.

I brushed past Frank and hit the exit door feeling great. I was almost sure that they wouldn’t fire me, though. They needed people. But if they did, I would still be okay. I refused to subject myself to the bullshit any longer. When I got in my car, I called Josiah. “Hello?”

“Hey. I’m gonna go home and shower and I’ll be there right after.”

“Okay. I’m gonna make paninis for lunch, with salad and soup.”

He sounded a little congested, so I asked, “You okay?”

“Yeah. Just a little congested, but I don’t want it to go any further than that.”

“Okay. I’ll be there to take care of you within the hour.”

“Thanks, gorgeous.”

I could hear the smile in his voice, and it made me smile. After hanging up with him, I called Mac and checked on Cannon. When he tried to make further conversation, I told him to put my son on the phone. I didn’t have time for his shenanigans. After the shit he pulled last night, there was nothing more we needed to talk about if it wasn’t about Cannon. Sometimes, I would listen to him vent about his job or we’d talk about his parents and mine, but that was all coming to a stop.

After going home to shower, I packed an overnight bag. I was excited to spend the night with Josiah. I didn’t know whether Oakley would be there or not. I knew Josiah and Oakley’s mom had gotten into it about when she could get him, but I wasn’t sure about the outcome of that.
